What is Visualization?

By now, you've probably heard of visualization. Have you ever wondered exactly what it really is and exactly how to use it to your benefit? It's possible to learn how to use the process of creative visualization & internal mental images such that you can change your body, mind and consciousness.

Yes, it is that powerful.

With repetition , you can change your health, your weight, your athletic performance and your behavior. It's similar to **meditation** when done properly.

Your body and mind can't tell the difference between what's real and vividly imagined. That's right. No matter if a certain event happens to you or it's imagined inside your head, your mind thinks it's real. Your body chemically reacts to whatever image you may have in your mind.

Try this: Close your eyes and imagine someone handing you a bright yellow lemon wedge. See the juice dripping off of it. Now, imagine putting it in your mouth and taking a great big bite.

What happens?

When you're assoiciated into the experience enough you will notice the juices in your mouth start to intensify, and you may even cringe at the sour taste.

Need another example?

Do you like to go to the movies? What kind? Maybe you like romantic comedies, war movies or horror.

When you're sitting in the movie, do you feel your emotions change based on what's happening on screen? Do you laugh, cry or jump out of your seat? Of course you do. We go to movies to feel something different than our daily experience.

Movies and television are a perfect example of something our mind considers vividly imagined. The emotions conjured up by watching are stored as if they really happened to you personally.

You have plenty of emotion (both good & bad) stored in your body. Lots of it is positive. Plenty of it is negative. To accomplish your goals and make yourself as effective as a geni, you need all the positive energy flowing through you that you can get!

So surround yourself with things that create positive mental images & energy: people, books, movies & TV programs. You may want to eliminate negative mental images and things that put you into anxiety: the nightly news or CNN, scary war movies or books. You can even eliminate negative people from your life or limit your association with them!

How Can I Use Creative Visualization?

By visualizing an event, a situation, or an object, such as a car, a house, furniture etc., you attract it to you. You see in your imagination what you want and it happens. It is like daydreaming. It resembles magic, though actually there is no magic here. It is the natural process of the power of the thoughts.

Everyone uses this power in an unconscious manner in their everyday affairs. They are not aware that they are using some sort of power. Successful people see their goals in a positive way and attain success. Unsuccessful people can unknowingly see failure. All successful people in all fields use it consciously or unconsciously.

For example, you are living in small apartment and need a house. Instead of brooding about your fate, and the fact that you haven't enough money, and that you have to continue living in a small apartment, change your thoughts. That is all that is necessary.

Try this exercies: See your new house in your imagination as if you're looking through your own eyes, living in the house of your dreams. When you get a very compelling feeling about how great it is, make that picture into a snapshot so you can see yourself in it as if you're watching a movie.

It does not matter if you haven't enough money. Just imagine yourself living in your new house and see it as a reality. The opportunity or way will present itself.

Overcoming Limited Thinking

Creative visualization can do great things, however, for every person there are some areas which they may find hard to change, at least in the immediate future. Using visualization is a great power, but there are some limits to using it. These limits are within us, not in the power.

Very often we limit ourselves and cannot look beyond a limited circle. We limit ourselves by our thoughts and beliefs. The wider we can look at the world and ourselves, the greater are our possibilities. Any limits are within our minds, and it is up to us to rise above them.

It may take some time until things start to change. Simple, small demonstrations of this power may come fast, but bigger results may need a longer time to happen.

The time and effort put forth in this study are really worthwhile. Have faith and patience and results will start appearing.

An Example of Creative Visualization

Years ago, I decided to use these techniques to get a date. I imagined myself sitting on a ski lift talking and laughing with a cute guy and skiing with him all day. I concentrated on this image for just a few moments as I buckled up my ski boots one morning at Copper Mountain.

As I got on the tram from the parking lot and got my ticket at the window, I forgot about everything I had done, just going about my business. As I got on the lift and it was taking us up the hill, a cute guy sat down and we were suddenly talking & laughing. He then says, "Hey, why don't you ski with my and my friends all day?'

It was a direct quote from the scene that I had visualized! When I realized it, I almost fell off the lift in amazement! This all happened within the span of 20 minutes. Surprising isn't it? This power can sometimes work very quickly.

Oh, are you curious to know what happened with that guy? Well, nothing, because he and his buddies were skiing on harder terrain than I had planned for the day. I never saw him after that 10 min lift ride. I used the power haphazardly, not thinking about exactly what I wanted. I just thought about meeting a guy, laughing and skiing with him, a wish that came true. Had I used **SMART Goalsetting** as outlined on this site, I would have gotten better results!

Different Uses for Creative Visualization

You can use this technique to obtain results in many different areas of life.

Want to lose weight? See yourself looking at yourself in the mirror admiring your new trim body. Feel how great it will feel to be sleek and slim. Make sure to see yourself as if you're in a movie. Focus on it a few times per day, every day. Watch the pounds melt away!

Want to perform better in sports? Just see yourself performing exactly how you need to, as if you're on an ESPN highlight film. Russian athletes were introduced to the value of visualization in the '60s and '70's; and as a result, became an Olympic powerhouse in many sports.

To test the power of visualization, Russian athletes were divided into 3 groups: some trained regualrly, some trained and visualized, some visualized but did not train.

The results? The athletes that trained and visualized AND the athletes who only visualized performed the best. The athletes who only trained physically did the worst of the test groups!

Want to create a stronger, more peaceful, loving relationship?

See yourself and your mate (or potential mate) having great, open conversations and doing whatever you do to have lots of fun.

This can be especially useful when you know that you may have challenging conversations on the horizon. See them going smoothly beforehand and notice how great they go!

Want a new job? See yourself in the job that you want, making the money that you want. Notice your confidence how how great it feels!

What if it doesn't work?
If you are not experiencing the results that you want, consider it feedback. Do you have a limiting belief or decision that you need to shift to clear the way for more effective manifestation? Do you have the negative energy of anger, sadness, guilt or fear stopping you?

These are the times to be real with yourself and ask the tough questions. You may not like the answers but there are tools to assist you in our **Train Your Brain audio series.** Using these tools can make change of unconscious negative patterns easy and fun.
